ESL Bus Trainee

Job Summary In preparation for a successful career as a Bus Operator, the ESL trainee will:
  • Increase English proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing through active class participation.
  • Master key vocabulary and concepts related to operating and maintaining commercial vehicles.
  • Refine customer service skills in English through a variety of communication simulations.
  • Get to know the UTA Way, our organizational culture, and develop camaraderie with peers.
  • Participate in an eight-week training program.

Minimum Qualifications
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Ability to work in the US.
  • Safe driver with a valid Utah driver license and no more than 2 moving violations in the past 3 years.
  • No convictions for driving under the influence of alcohol or any drugs within the past 10 years.
  • For safety sensitive positions it is required to obtain and maintain a Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card (paid by UTA)
  • One year in a customer service role with ability to solve problems and resolve customer inquiries.

EDUCATION/TRAINING:
  • High school or equivalent diploma, preferred.
  • Demonstrated intermediate English proficiency in reading and writing with a level 4 or higher on the CASAS assessment.


Experience:
Skills:
  • Communicate with supervisors and customers and maintain good interpersonal relations, both orally and over the radio, in English with support

Abilities:
  • Operate all passenger buses safely.
  • Report for assigned shifts on time.
  • Perform the physical requirements of the job to include regular walking, floor to waist lifting up to 50 lbs. occasionally/carrying up to 15 lbs. occasionally, reaching, pushing, pulling, kneeling, crouching, balancing, bending, and prolonged periods of sitting and standing.
  • This job requires regular and predictable attendance.

Pay Rate:
$15.986 per hour

Shift:
8:00 am - 3:15 pm Monday through Thursday (Shift & Days Off Subject to Change)


Class Starts: Monday, June 10th, 2024


Close Date: April 30th, 2024 by 05:59 PMEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
